I stand corrected on Brum! Without knowing the histories of clubs I generally go with the city name.

Good luck to Moseley for the rest of the season! It does blow my mind that the second city of the country doesn't have a team higher than this league.

Seems like a huge gap in the market. Birmingham has a fantastic cricket ground and county team, two big football clubs, concert venues etc but seemingly no interest in rugby. Strange situation given how strong rugby is in the East Midlands.

There is a market for top flight rugby, and Moseley’s gates when operating at the highest level stood up well in competition with what other clubs were getting at that time. Obviously 14k for the SAM Doble match was an outlier but in amateur days we got good amateur era crowds.

The game going pro was mishandled by the club (see also Cov), but unlike Cov we’re still in the wilderness (albeit we did have a good stint back at level 2 until the back end of the 2010s.

Otherwise Birmingham is a city where lots of people (at least relatively) play/ed rather than watched. The rugby ecosystem in the city used to be almost vast, and is still at least big. Football (association) has always been king here for the paying public though.

When the relative position changed a lot of Mose fans swapped their shirts for Worcester too (which is a bit of a dirty secret for some - not all obviously) Birmingham based Worcester fans!

‘But we only want to watch top tier rugby was something I heard from many Birmingham based people who used to go to the Reddings around the time Worcester were tilting for/then later establishing at level one.

Anyway, back on topic, yes away from the common some very interesting results around the bazaars. Albion - RP a bit of an eyebrow-raiser for me, but as said a couple of posts back, there are a host of reasons why clubs might over/underperform on the opening day. It’ll be clearer at Christmas.

Yes good win for us (although it’s early enough in the season not to be clear if any result is a true reflection of the teams!

Just on a point of order, you’re in a tiny minority with ‘Brum’ - adding Birmingham to the name is still guaranteed to spark outbreaks of passion in the clubhouse and no one would ever say Brum.

We are Moseley/Mose (or ‘Birmingham Moseley’ if someone absolutely must) and ‘Brum’ always comes across as a denial of who we are sadly. For me it breaks the connection with 1873-2017 or whenever it was. ‘Birmingham Moseley’ was a marketing gimmick that one day may still be reversed - one can live in hope. Fans/people in the city would always say Moseley or Mose, and press reports tend to default to that after the first use of ‘Birmingham Moseley.’ We are not ‘Brum’. Opposition clubs abbreviating to ‘Birmingham’ in their reports also winds me up while I’m getting things off my chest. Sooner we go back to Moseley FC the better

Birmingham is surely Birmingham Solihull Bees now down in Counties 2.

Cambridge did look good in parts, I admit I am biassed, but five tries proves they can play rugby.

Even with Sam Turner away with Canada, the scrum was solid.

But the line out was a mess. Due to injuries and unavailability, we had a loan hooker who had only one training session with the squad and was not on target.

The ex-champ players were struggling to cope with the lower tackle height. We gave away five penalties for high tackles which is unacceptable.

Moseley's tries came from good rugby. They tackled hard, ran fast and passed well, and you get a long way with that.

Thank you for your kind words towards Moseley. I feared the worst facing an ex-Champ team in the opening fixture, but we didn't lose our focus after conceding two tries and were pragmatic in taking points which saw us get the win over the line.

Though only the opening weekend the Cambridge scrum is a powerful until and Mose took a beasting which I can only hope our pack will benefit from. Unfortunately for you your lineout misfires allowed Mose to break out of defensive positions and push into Cambridge territory. Had your lineout clicked I believe you would have had a comfortable victory.

Have been following from afar today but seems like a very interesting day.

Great start for Stortford. Was a very inexperienced (at this level) front 3 whilst looked like Dings had some quality ringers in those positions. Sounds like they very much held their own.

There are apparently now a couple of hundred covered seats at the ground. Stortford going up in the world!

Plymouth result is the stand out, very much sending a message to the league there!

Very impressive start for the newbies Camborne, with Sheffield also giving Tonbridge a run for their money.

Evening all to old and new users , i just wanted to update you all in Regards `Stortys` kind Comments in regards the Dings Players last Saturday v Bishop Stortford

all 22 players on the days are Dings Signings , with a Prop on Loan from the Bears and only because we lent a prop on Loan to them in the shape of Andrew Turner , so without feeding the Troll , just the one loan this week the coaches this summer worked tirelessley to try and bring new lads in which they succeeded , we even took 3 travelling reserves to show these young lads what the travelling is like at this Level , rumours abound and to give game time it looks like Mssrs Genge and Van Rensburg will be having a Run out @ Shaftesbury park Next sat ? , that said it was a good game i have read 2 accounts , but in truth we were done for in a poor 15 Minute spell in the 1st half , Stortford look a good side , but i would think Defence will be on the training agenda this week , lets hope this week is just as good

Just seen the Plymouth video of their 9 tries against Rosslyn Park. I’m sure their forward power won’t have gone unnoticed by other coaches. Whilst Park had a red card around the 20 minute mark Plymouth also had two yellows and but for this the margin of victory could have been greater. Rotherham demonstrated last season the benefits of a dominant pack and I’m sure Plymouth will only get better as the pitches get worse into the winter. As for Rosslyn Park that was an awful defeat and it remains to be seen if our scrum coach can turn things around before next week against Bishops Stortford.
